Caf? on wheels or lunch in the fresh air

This summer, in the courtyard of New St. Isaac’s, the take-away food van “1983” was in operation. An excellent alternative to the nearby cafes and restaurants, the yellow van immediately attracted the attention of our tenants. Its owners, student Vlad Kyaune and designer Sasha Bratchikov, restored the Volkswagen Transporter 1983 over the course of a few months to become a caf? on wheels.

“At first we invited the van to take part in our summer opening event at New St. Isacc’s. But then we thought: why not invite them to come, for example, every Wednesday? The guys immediately agreed and we developed a lunch menu together for our tenants. Now it’s possible to both breakfast and lunch at a table in the courtyard or to take something back to your office,” explains Valeriya Semenova, director of marketing.

“Usually you can find us in places where there are big crowds of people, such as at events or festivals. New St. Isaac’s is our first experience of staying in a fixed location, where most people work and come down to us for a little while at breakfast or lunchtime. For our part, we try to not only prepare the food but also make sure that people leave feeling relaxed and in a good mood. The porridge with bananas and jam is our most popular breakfast dish and at lunch its tomato soup and sandwiches,” says owner and founder of the business, Aleksandr Bratchikov.
